2008 County Sprint Championships

The 2008 rearranged County Sprint Championships took place at Market Drayton last Sunday. From the Titans Alfie Pardoe, Elliot Hughes and Hannah Greene were competing and made their presence known. Out of a total of 11 events that they swam between them they won 3 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze medals; recorded 7 personal best times; 5 all time club records; and Alfie won the overall best 10/u boy award for the entire County Championships.

In addition to securing the overall top boy award Alfie took the silver medal in the 50m freestyle in a PB and club record time of 0:33.34 – lowering Jamie Thomas’s previously held record by nearly a quarter of a second; the gold medal in the 50m backstroke in another personal best and club record time of 0:38.08 – lowering his own previously held club record by 0:00.58. In the 100m IM he won the gold medal in a personal best time of 1:25.12; in the 50m breast he reduced his PB to 0:46.20 – winning the bronze medal; whilst in the 50m butterfly he swam a disappointing race – way outside his PB – coming 4th.

Elliot Hughes won 3 out of 3 silver medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 100m IM. In the 50m butterfly he achieved a PB and club record time of 0:35.51; and in the 100m IM he swam a fantastic race securing another PB and club record time of 1:21.42. Excellent stuff!!

Hannah Greene won the gold medal in the 50m butterfly in a new PB and club record time of 0:37.85. She took the silver medal in the 50m freestyle in a time of 0:33.39; but was unfortunately deprived of a silver medal in the 100m IM by a disqualification on her back to breast turn.

Overall some excellent performances.
