Titan 2008 800m Championships
The Titans 2008 800m Championships took place last Saturday at Ellesmere College Pool. Thirteen swimmers competed – each given an age related handicap to determine the overall winner of the 800m Titan Shield.
After 4 heats – Titan swimmers had secured 12 PBs and shattered a number of Club records. Many of the times recorded would have been fast enough to have secured Gold medals at this years County Championships
Hector Pardoe (pictured), aged 7, came first in a superb time of 14:10.32. There can’t be too many 7 year olds in the whole of the UK who could swim an 800m that fast. Just behind him in second place was Jessica Thomas, aged 8, who swam a fantastic time of 14:03.25. Alfie Pardoe secured third place in a time of 11:04.03 – knocking 73 seconds off his previous PB set 9 months back. Elliot Hughes came fourth in a time of 11:11.58. The times recorded by Alfie and Elliot were faster than the 11/u boys Gold medal winning County championship time. Jamie Thomas took the fifth spot in a time of 11:38.09.
Commenting upon the performances Head Coach Jon Pardoe said “Most non Titan Club swimmers struggle to go under 14:15.00 even when they are 11 or 12 years old. For both Hector and Jessica to have achieved this at the ages of 7 and 8 respectively is further evidence of our ambition and scale of thinking”.
